This weekend was all about checking out a series of cafes in the Tiong Bahru estate. A visit to The Orange Thimble proved to be quite a stress-reliever and a welcoming start to the weekend. We followed up with an afternoon stopover at Drips Bakery Cafe on Sunday, which is just a stone's throw away from TOT.
Like TOT, it occupies an expansive and large space, which was filled with our favourite old-school furnishings. It was all bright and light in there. We were appreciative that the owners took into consideration the importance of having personal space - all tables were amply spaced out for comfortable seating. When we were there, there was an attractive array of tarts for us to pick from. The last Mixed Berries Tart instantly caught my eye and for fear of it being snatched away under my nose, I promptly proceeded to secure it. A good choice, I must say - the crust was not too thick and had a nice snap to it, and the luscious, sweet berries were perfect accompaniments. The pastry cream was unfortunately a pathetic, stingy swipe across the base, which meant serious rationing. Top it up, chef!
The other tarts look equally amazing and warrant a subsequent visit....I'm going to give it another shot.
