It is a little known fact that Tiong Bahru has evolved into an enclave of the uber cool and hip. With that, the cafe culture there has somewhat blossomed, ever since the very first of its kind, Fourty Hands started the ball rolling. The Orange Thimble was next in line to offer those in the neighbourhood and beyond a quaint place to hang out.
Alv and I found ourselves there one Friday evening after dinner. With supposedly everyone out painting the town red, the cafe was devoid of crowds, which made it such a wonderful place to spend a quiet night in. I went totally nuts in all its retro and eclectic glory.
It is a cross between a cafe and an art gallery, which meant many of its walls were decked with photos and paintings. I especially appreciate such an arrangement, which not only allows you to better visualise how these pieces would fit into a home setting but also enables you to view them freely without the niggling obligations. Another asset of the cafe is its spaciousness, which provided several nooks and crannies to nestle oneself in, be it indoor or out in the courtyard.
We lazed on the couch with our Strawberry & Cream and Cafe Latte Macchiato. I wasn't in the mood for ice-cream but there seemed to be a good selection there. Now I know where to go for my late night fixes in future.
Brekkie lovers will be thrilled to know that they serve up brunch as well. Girlfriends, you know where our next brunch spot will be....
Next cafe on the street to check out - Drips!
